Meet Donna E. Bennick, P.C.

Donna, born and raised in Concord, North Carolina, received her Bachelor’s Degree with High Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981. She graduated from the UNC School of Law in 1984 and then began practicing criminal law in New York City. After working ten years with prominent New York City criminal and family law firms, Donna set up her own family law practice in Manhattan in 1994. Ten years later, she returned to North Carolina and opened her Chapel Hill law office.

A problem solver, Donna is ready to counsel her clients during negotiations or, if necessary, protect their rights in court. Over the last 30+ years, she has handled high profile divorce cases in New York and North Carolina, including those involving complex financial issues. With her extensive experience and as a certified family law financial mediator, she can help you find creative solutions to even the most complicated family law issues to resolve them in mediation.

Though an experienced litigator, Donna's philosophy is, "Every effort should be made by the parties and their counsel to resolve matters without resorting to litigation." To this end Donna has settled numerous cases in her tenure as a practicing family law attorney, believing "…no family law case need darken a courtroom door."

Donna is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Family Law Section of that organization, the Orange County Bar Association, and the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.

Your Initial Consultation

The first step in establishing an attorney-client relationship is the initial consultation which is designed to identify the specifics of your individual situation so the best plan can be worked out to fit your needs. Donna’s goal is to help you get answers to questions like these:

  • "Will I get my equitable share of marital assets?"
  • "Will I have enough money to live on?" or "Am I obligated to pay alimony?"
  • "What am I entitled to or what do I have to pay in child support?"
  • "What can I do to lessen the disruption to my children?"
  • "What if I am a victim of domestic violence?" "What are my rights?"

Once all facts are gathered, Donna will explain how the law works in North Carolina, advise you of your rights, and discuss options that are in your best interest. She will also explain fee structures so you know what costs are involved

Where Donna Can Help

"Donna was recommended to me by the faculty at the UNC School of Law. She proved a superb choice. My wife and I were going through a collaborative divorce process and her experience with both this process and litigation proved relevant, since she was able to provide an expert assessment of how particular issues might play out if we went to court. Professional and thorough, I felt throughout that my interests were well protected in what was an emotional and trying process. If you want a lawyer at the top of her game, you should definitely consider hiring Donna Bennick."
